Biking in Loei with Loei Palace Hotel 9/5/2008 5:30:00 AM

Mountainous Loei, situated in northeastern Thailand, is a province that enchants tourists with its alluring cultures, captivating landscape and warm-welcoming people.

One of the best ways to take in the charms of the province is to jump on a bike for a two-wheeled exploration tour. There are many interesting destinations and the view along the way is breathtaking. Depending on your stamina and pedal power there is a wide choice of exciting destinations to seek out.

To start with, in the heart of Loei, approximately 500m from Loei Palace Hotel, the City Pillar Shrine, a holy shine for local people, is built of pink cassia and elaborately carved and inlaid with gold. Next to the Pillar, Chao Po Kut Pong Shrine, the city's oldest shrine, is also situated.

Loei Province Cultural Centre, only 5km from the city center, on Loei-Chiang Khan Road, has a great collection of artifacts and items typical of the indigenous cultures and traditions of Loei.

A more ambitious 17km ride away from the city is the Tham Phaa Pu Temple, surrounded by lush mountains - a veritable natural feast for the eyes and home to white-eye langurs. There are also several caves around the temple to delve into. The nearest is Phiang Din Cave, where the Luang Por Yai Buddha image is located.

To witness and be part of local way of life, the market is a mere 1km from Loei Palace Hotel and a fascinating experience. Fresh fruit, vegetables and other local produce are all on display.

An idyllic scene in the evening can be found riding along Loei River. Tall grass sways in the breeze alongside and the glittering sunset reflects in the water as the sun gradually lowers until it is just seen over the tips of the grass and disappears into the horizon - a most memorable picture!

At the end of the day, enjoy superb cuisine and a restful sleep in the comfort of Loei Palace Hotel, where warm hospitality awaits with a smile.

Lovin' Loei 4/2/2008 3:56:00 AM

Located in the North East of Thailand, Loei is a sparkling jewel in a region, which boasts a unique combination of natural landscape, rich culture, relaxed way of life and a distinct northern feel.

To start with, natural charms abound. Loei is nestled in the Loei River valley, extending its serenity northwards for 47km. It is landscaped with picturesque mountains, beautiful caves, waterfalls and verdant valleys that provide a memorable trip for nature lovers.

A trip to Loei is not complete without visiting Phu Kradueng, the vast flat-topped table mountain, which can be reached on foot
within about 3-4 hours, depending on the pace. Either way, it is worth a journey! The top of the mountain is a natural wonder, with open grassland, maple, beech, oak and graceful pine trees. It is also a habitat of wild animals, retreating into the distance.

Another site that should not be missed is the smaller National Park Phu Reua, which is accessible by vehicle. The abundance of tropical vegetation and pine forest is also seen here.
Moreover, there are the Erawan Caves, which is home to a Buddha's image at the summit and is also a pilgrimage site. When hunger strikes, Huay Krating Lake can accommodate a picturesque dinner on a floating sala out on the river.

On a lazy day, strolling along the river provides a breathtaking and scenic view of fishermen in their rolling boats on the river, lined with lush green trees on both sides.

There are also lovely festivals and fairs in Loei to enjoy. Phee Ta Khon is an extraordinary example. The festival is held annually in June or July in the village of Dan Sai. Villagers dress up in ragged patched robes and costumes, with horrific masks. The procession moves through the town, to pay homage to their ancestors.

After eventful sightseeing, Loei Palace Hotel, located in the heart of the province offers comfortable 4-star  accommodation. The hotel's restaurants offers a wide range of Thai, Chinese and international cuisine. Lazy days can be spent by the pool and facilities are also offered for business travellers.

To the Bat Cave! Lovin' Loei in Thailand 9/18/2007 3:38:00 AM

Not quite the residence of Batman, but Pha Yaa cave in Loei Province, Thailand, is certainly a sight to see, and definitely one the winged man of steel would be impressed with!

Loei Province, in the North East of Thailand, is well off the beaten track and home to a wealth of flora and fauna. Within Phu Pha Lom Forest Park, in Na Duang District, Pha Yaa Cave is the natural habitat of countless insectivorous bats. They live in an abundant area and are critical to the terrestrial ecosystem by bringing balance to nature.

Around 5pm, seen exiting from the mouth of the cave in the mountainside, a flock of literally a million bats starts their procession to forage together in the Park. The flock creates a dark beautiful winding line drawn across the dusky sky until the sun sets. Lasting about an hour until the last one has left the cave, their sound breaks the silence of the early evening, yet retains a peaceful atmosphere. Simply amazing!

On the way to and from the bat cave, the lush green countryside and beautiful mountain formations are equally awe-inspiring.

The bats return before dawn in a similar fashion. While they are asleep, there are plenty of other adventurous or relaxing activities in Loei awaiting exploration. Test your energy by climbing up to Phu Kra Dueng, Phu Rua or Phu Luang, cruise along the Mae Khong River, freshen up in picturesque waterfalls, or take a cultural tour to temples or Loei winery and vineyards - the list is endless...

The perfect place to stay is Loei Palace Hotel, located in the centre of Loei province, with 156 guestrooms of international standard and first class service. There is a good choice of dining options, meetings and business facilities. Lazy days can be spent by the pool, in the jacuzzi or enjoying a relaxing Thai massage, also available at the hotel.
