Amari Appoints Christoph Leonhard as General Manager of Amari Palm Reef Koh Samui
Amari, the hotel and resort group celebrating the colours and rhythms of modern Asia, recently announced the appointment of Christoph Leonhard as General Manager of Amari Palm Reef Koh Samui. Mr Leonhard, a German national, brings to this role a wealth of experience in hospitality with over 15 years in international hotel companies. He started his hospitality career at The St. Regis Hotel in New York and worked in the USA for 3 years before moving to Thailand. In 2000, he joined Amari Watergate Bangkok as Executive Assistant Manager, responsible for the leadership and management of the rooms division of the landmark property. He then worked for The Peninsula and Sofitel hotel in Bangkok. In his new role, Mr Leonhard oversees the smooth running of Amari Palm Reef Koh Samui, the 187-room resort located on Chaweng Beach, recently named TTG Asia’s Best Beach Resort 2009.

Amari joins hands with BMA and Thai Beverage to Clean up the Community in Celebration of World Environment Day
Khun Yuthachai Charanachitta, Owner of ONYX Hospitality Group together with Mr. Peter Henley, CEO led a team on a community to the clean-up activity of New Petchburi Road in co-operation with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Thai Beverage. Comprising staffs from Amari Atrium Bangkok, Amari Boulevard Bangkok, Amari Don Muang Bangkok, Amari Watergate Bangkok as well as from Amari Estates and Italthai Development, moved along New Petchburi Road and Pratunam to remove debris and litter from the streets using cleaning equipment provided by the Rajthevi and Huaykwang District Administrations. This volunteer community-service activity was organised to coincide with World Environment Day 2010.

ONYX Hospitality Group launches ‘Arts For the Planet’ in celebration of Earth Day
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day on 22 April 2010, ONYX Hospitality Group in co-operation with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Department of Education, has launched ‘Arts For the Planet’. This two-month long painting competition will provide a total of 12 scholarships to students in primary and secondary schools in the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration system. Speaking at the project’s launch, Mr. Peter Henley (second from right), President and Chief Executive Officer, ONYX Hospitality Group stated “Through ‘Arts For the Planet’ we hope to instill awareness of the environmental issues that have impacted all of us. The project aims to engage the younger generation through arts to foster critical thinking about the world we live in and the key environmental issues.”
Ms. Masvimol Rakbankerd (far left), Deputy Director, Department of Education, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration added, “The students will benefit greatly from this project. Not only will they be able to display their artistic creativity, but they will also be able to incorporate their knowledge of environmental conservation into their paintings as well.”
The unveiling of the ‘Arts For the Planet’ logo was held at Amari Watergate Bangkok. This project will be held from 17 May - 20 July 2010. Students interested to join the program can contact their schools directly.

AMARI WINNER OF GOOGLE SOUTH EAST ASIA
ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN OF THE YEAR
Amari’s 2009 advertising campaign has been awarded Campaign of the Year by Google Southeast Asia. Amari, part of the Thailand-based ONYX Hospitality Group, was presented with the award as part of the Google Southeast Asia's annual awards ceremony.
A spokesperson for Google commented that “Amari has been an extremely strong proponent of combining the power of search and the Google display network for its online branding campaigns, which is the main reason they won the Campaign of the Year Award,” said Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Travel, Retail and Automotive, Google Southeast Asia. Through its innovative use of online marketing, including its attention to tracking and measuring its campaign results, it was able to drive room sales and ROI aggressively in an unpredictable travel market. We congratulate Amari for this win, and hope to see them launching even stronger online ad campaigns that combine search and display in the future.”
This year’s judging criteria included: creative use of Google products and technologies, interactivity and functionality, creative concept and overall user experience, and was judged by a panel of advertising experts from the region.
Amari’s advertising campaign is spearheaded by ONYX’s Vice-President of E-Commerce, Chetan Patel. "We are greatly appreciative of this recognition as it acknowledges our continued focus on creative and maintaining a vibrant online presence," Mr Patel remarked. "We look forward to building on our successful campaigns to date as we strive to towards being an industry leader in online marketing initiatives."
