Two Michelin Star Chef  Wolfgang Becker in Residence @ Mantra

From 12 -16 November 2011, Mantra Restaurant and Bar will showcase the ambrosial, award-winning cuisine of Guest Chef Wolfgang Becker, the two Michelin star of Becker’s Hotel & Restaurant in Trier, Germany.

Upon inheriting the family business in 1997, he embarked with his wife Christine on transforming both the restaurant and the culinary concept which resulted in Becker’s Restaurant being awarded two Michelin stars and 18 points in Gault Millau.  His cooking style is renowned for its “clear, authentic and honest” tastes. “I only put things on the plate that make sense, says the 43-year-old Becker. “My plates are supposed to speak for themselves.”

Dining at Becker’s is an eight-course extravaganza with such modern creations as glazed sweetbread with orange, ricotta and roasted almonds or mieral dove with olives,  spices and aubergine. Resident sommelier (and Becker’s wife) Christine serves the appropriate wines, often from the couple’s own winery. Within the estate, there is also second restaurant, Weinhaus which offers fine rural cuisine such as game with chanterelles and bread dumplings.

Well accustomed to presenting his gourmet creations against the backdrop of his distinctively designed restaurants, Becker will undoubtedly find the renowned Mantra Restaurant and Bar, with its seductive palette of red and black and vibrant, interactive dining spaces, an equally inspiring culinary stage.

Showcasing such signature dishes as the finest slices of beef tenderloin and tatare red beet, smoked eel and sour cream; turbot with a crust of parmesan cheese and duo of ratatouille;  braised cheek and pink sirloin of lamb and olive jus, artichokes and creamy polenta or to finish, dessert from plums and white chocolate.

6.30pm: Exclusive Opening Night Cocktail
Dinner: Priced at 1,999 Baht per person for a 3-course menu and
2,499 Baht per person for a 4-course menu.

• 13 November 2011
Noon: Sunday Brunch with Wolfgang Becker
Dinner: Set menus priced at 1,999 per person for a 3-course menu
and 2,499 Baht per person for a 4-course menu.

• 14 November 2011
2pm: Cooking Class, priced at 750 Baht per person
Dinner: Priced at 2,499 Baht per person for a 3-course menu
and 2,899 Baht per person for a 4-course menu, accompanied by a glass of Taltarni wine from the vineyards of South Australia.

A Wine Experience showcasing five culinary creations and six wines from Rheinland Pfalz, the home region of Wolfgang Becker. Priced at 1,200 Baht per person.
Dinner: Set menus priced at 1,999 Baht per person for a 3-course menu
And 2,499 Baht per person for a 4-course menu.

Grand Finale Dinner featuring a sumptuous six-course menu specially created by Becker and Mantra Executive Chef, Kai-Uwe Klenz, pared with the finest vintages from Clos du Val winery, Napa Valley, priced at THB 3,500 per person.

Amari Palm Reef Koh Samui has been voted Asia’s best Beach Hotel at the recent 22th Annual TTG Travel Awards 2011

Over 49,000 votes were cast during the three month voting period which was open to all readers of TTG Asia's portfolio of travel industry publications including TTG Asia, TTG China, TTG Mice and TTG-BTmice China.

Accepting the award was resort General Manager, Christoph Leonhard.
