Baht for a Better Life 7/7/2007 4:05:00 AM

Your small change could make a big change to someone's life.

The Baht for a Better Life Foundation was started by Amari Hotels and Resorts in 1995.  Small change, contributed by guests to our hotels and donations from our staff, are used to further the education of children in Thailand.  There are no administrative costs in running the Baht for a Better Life Foundation.  Therefore, every dollar, pound and euro given to the fund is used for educational projects.

At present, we support two different initiatives - the Duang Prateep Foundation and the Amari Schools Project.  The Duang Prateep Foundation supports the children from an under-privileged area of Bangkok and their families.  In this area, poverty prevents the majority of children from completing even basic education.  Through the project, we can support children who are especially hardworking and determined to continue their studies, despite the odds being against them.

Funds from the Baht for a Better Life Foundation have also been used to rebuild a dilapidated school in Na Chompoo, Udon Thani and build seven new schools in Doi Angkhang and Viang Hae near Chiang Mai, Chumporn in the South of Thailand, Tak province on the border with Burma, Banjama in Chiang Mai, Baan Changlang in Trang and Bann Na Nok Peed in Loei.  As well as building the classroom, donations have been used to buy essentials such as desks, chairs, blackboards, books and pencils.

In addition, some of our guests have decided to give larger donations.  US$ 250 will pay for a child's school fees and necessities such as books, uniform and lunch for one year.  Many of these children have ambitions to become teachers or nurses, so that they can put the skills, which they have been lucky enough to learn, back into the benefit of their community.

Sponsors Students through the “Baht for a Better Life” Program 9/19/2006 10:38:00 AM

Amari Hotels and Resorts first started the Baht for a Better Life scheme in 1995. Since then, coins donated by guests have been collected and used for furthering the education of children in Thailand.

Amari Hotels and Resorts currently sponsors twelve students through the Duang Prateep Foundation, which supports the slum children of Klong Toey. In addition funds are provided for the Amari School in Na Chompoo, Udorn Thani.

Students currently sponsored through the Klong Toey project include Boonchai Patimakorn and Vanida Aksorn who are in High School. Boonchai dreams of becoming a teacher whilst Vanida hopes that she will be able to be a doctor. These dreams may become a reality with the ongoing support given by the sponsorship program.

Amari Eye Glass Appeal-giving old specs a new home 1/11/2006 10:25:00 AM

Amari Hotels and Resorts is asking all spectacle wearers to gather together old or unwanted glasses and drop them off at any of their hotels and resorts in Thailand. The glasses will then be given a happy new home with people from villages in less affluent areas, where the villagers are unable to afford glasses.

The photograph shows a lady from a village near Mae Sot, in Tak province wearing glasses donated by the project and clearly delighted with her new clarity of sight.

The appeal is part of Amari’s “Baht for a Better Life” Foundation where small change from guests and donations from staff are used to further the education of children in Thailand.

At present, we support two different initiatives - thje Duang Prateep Foundation and the Amari Schools Project.  The Duang Prateep Foundation supports the children from an under-privileged area of Bangkok and their families.  In this area, poverty prevents the majourity of children from completing even basic education.  Through the project, we can support children who are especially hardworking and determined to continue their studies, despite the odds being against them.
